Need opinions: Funny or Not Funny…

As a feature idea for my site doing an “Ask FFH” post where I answer “emails” from readers. Sometimes there would be hockey, sometimes they would be odd questions about random topics, sometimes they’d be full out Dear Abby drivel. I’d make up the emails to start but then would accept serious and not serious emails from readers as well.

    Thoughts?

one of the only articles i would read on sportsnets website was when Jim Lang would do mailbags. Its cool when you answer hockey and non hockey questions alike. You get to develop a personality that may not come through when talking about just one or the other. I say go for it!

Right, but the non-hockey ones would mostly be for the funny.

Oh yes. As someone trying to get into city planning I can say Phoenix is one of the worst built cities of all time. Lots to like, the commute and sprawl are not among those things.

Depends on what area I go into. I’ll do what I can but likely wouldn’t be designing so much as telling people what they can and can’t build.

What gets me are the cookie cutter houses.
And yeah, the malls are all exactly the same. When I first moved out here, I went to surrey and I t hought I was in any random GTA suburb. Terrible.

Another reason I want to live Bay Area. Unique buildings. Sure, areas on the periphery are cookie cutter-ish, but it seemed less common.

Canada always had cookie cutter houses. Most of the old houses people love in nice old neighbourhoods were literally bought out of the Sears catalogue. They’ve just been modified over the years.

Oh. I start in the Fall. The Plan is, take time to save up to move, and actually prepare for the GRE. In that time take classes to look better on Grad School App and have a better starting point for school. In 30 credits I’ll have a second bachelor’s degree which will also help me get a planning job while I go to Grad school so I can afford to live in Cali and I’ll apply for Grad school a year from now.

It’s Glendale, hockey fans (and sport fans) seeming inability to enjoy a game without berating the other fans, not, apparently being able to watch a great sport and simply root for our teams and not be assholes about it. I like my team, you like your team and while I want to win, I don’t hate fans like large swaths of people do. I just don’t get it.

When you’re the manager of the group though you should, I dunno, be a little more professional though. I guess that’s expecting a lot.

To be fair, that’s pretty much the general mentality here in Canada. Everyone I know (besides the folks here) mocks the fact that Phoenix even has a team, the news coverage here isn’t any better.

There’s less stigma with the Thrashers though, it was an expansion franchise so Canadians typically don’t care as much if it fails.

With the Coyotes, it’s different because they used to be the Jets.

I used to be like the crowd with the whole hockey doesn’t belong in Phoenix and Return The Jets parade but you showed there are plenty of people there who cares about hockey and it’s pretty evident that the Yotes and their fans don’t get a fair shake in the court of public opinion.

where’s all the outrage and hysteria over the Avalanche? Their attendance figures aren’t all that much better this year. In fact here’s how they’ve ranked the past 4 years in avg attendance:

                    10/11 YTD- 24th
                    09/10 – 27th
                    08/09 – 26th
                    07/08 – 17th

Yet you never hear stories out of COL about how they can’t fill the building or aren’t a hockey market. Wonder why…

Yes but I mean how many canadians were giddy over the idea of them moving, like they are with the Yotes?

                      • winkle1701 2:02 pm on March 8, 2011 Permalink

I am just reiterating the crap I hear. There’s a whole lot of “Bettman stole the Jets and moved it to a southern-US market which makes no sense just to screw Winnipeg and Canadians” thing going on.

So yes, that’s one reason why people here tend to get giddy over the Yotes failing. It’s as much of a “Screw Bettman” thing as anything else.

I don’t know how it was like in Vancouver but during the whole Ballsillie fiasco, the guy was considered to be Canada’s new patron Saint or folk hero.
